Summary/ObjectiveThe Kansas City Metropolitan Crime Commission is conducting a selection process to identify a qualified candidates for Resource Specialist positions at the Second Chance Reentry Program who report to the Second Chance Program Director.
The Resource Specialist will interact with Second Chance and other Crime Commission staff, program participants, volunteers, managers and correctional personnel to aid in successful reentry on the part of the participant, and the supervising Missouri Department of Corrections. The Resource Specialist will connect participants with resources in the areas of employment, education, housing, emergency needs, etc. The Resource Specialist is expected to have a vast knowledge of community resources that are available to assist the justice involved program participants with their respective community reentry plans and they will have frequent interaction with corrections personnel and persons having a criminal history.

Case Management
- Conducts regular and ongoing meetings with program participants, supervising officers, appropriate community service providers, and/or other SCP staff.
- Provides resource information and referrals to program participants, with a particular focus on those with risk factors related to violent felony offenses, homelessness, employment needs, or other needs that require identification and coordination of community resources.
- Makes participant referrals to both internal and external programs to reduce risks and achieve goals.
- Maintains appropriate files, records, and statistics to facilitate good case management and accountability.
- Complete standardized intake/assessment, goal plans, and other data collection tools for case files and documentation of case work.
- Maintains appropriate networks and resources to enable the referral of participants to broader community service agencies and advocate for access to these services on behalf of participants.
- Makes appropriate, timely, and sound decisions about required interventions, and consult with
- Maintains written and/or electronic participant records compliant with legislation and program standards.
- Tracks SCP programming activities and outcomes in multiple databases
- Collaborates with SCP staff to help program participants achieve reentry performance benchmarks.
- Assists with the preparation of reports required.
Reentry Services - Facilitates periodic release readiness/life skills workshops within the correctional system.
- Facilitates regular job readiness classes & quarterly welcome back sessions.
Other Duties - Reports for work, work assignments, and job-related functions on time and when scheduled.
- Participants in job-related training sessions and seminars.
- Assist with KCMCC fundraising events, as needed.
- Models a high standard of professionalism to co-workers, program participants, and partners.
- Remains in compliance with Employee Confidentiality agreement as a trusted member of the KCMCC team.
- Follows guidelines established and set forth in KCMCC Employee Handbook.

Supervisory ResponsibilityThe Resource Specialist, or any title related to this position, has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Some flexibility in hours may be required.
TravelThe position may require occasional travel to and from correctional facilities, probation & parole offices, other service providers and training sites. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Required Skills, Education, and Experience1. Relevant experience working with pre-and post-release Dept. of Corrections population.
2. Demonstrated skills and experience in working effectively with returning citizens.
3. Familiarity with the Kansas City resource providers.

Preferred Education and Experience1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

3. Experience in working with justice involved population

Additional Eligibility QualificationsIndividual must follow all funder requirements and KCMCC employment guidelines.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance Individual must be able to pass correctional facility screenings and/or fingerprint clearance.
